i'm trying to decide between the two. i like the thinner neck and floyd rose - so will be between blackjack sls fr and the hellraiser sls hybrid.
Schecter Hellraiser Extreme C-1 VS Blackjack SLS C-1 A. I have spent a lot of time with both guitars. The extreme is heavier (weight not tone) and has a thicker neck than the sls. The sls has a much thinner neck than other schecters.

Looking for something that can cross genres without hesitating.
I like jumping from jazz to metal.
Any other guitar suggestion appreciated.
Please tell what model you feel best suites cross-genre playability.
Mine was terrible and went back immd.
Does that mean that they are all bad?
But the fretwork was shoddy at best and it's was all wrong, the neck wasn't finished properly, the pups were put in strangely, sounded awful As far as the op is concerned, if you can dig out an older "team j craft" Ibanez, they are very good.
I'd recommend prestige regardless.
Still, the lower priced Schecters feel really good for truck-stop-sushi.
I have a KM-7 which schecter blackjack sls vs hellraiser your bag, I understand but it's well built.

You mean you bought an ESP ST-1 and got a lemon?
Wow, that's the first time I hear that, ESP are very good guitars, even the lower end stuff hold up pretty good, my ST-1 needed a real setup out of the case but it's flawlessly built and sounds as good as my Suhr.
Not the first time I've heard it.
But again, if it's the shizzle for you, cool!
BTW, Suhr is on my short list not to hijack but your saying you don't like it as much?
The Suhr's modern neck is too narrow for my taste, the low E is too close to the edge of the fretboard and I hate that, on the high E it's got the right spacing, that's the only detail I don't like about it, other that that it's a great guitar.

I had just the opposite with my E II.
The high E was too close to the edge and the low E was ok.
I know the EII's neck specs changed after the one I have was discontinued but mine is perfect, no problems with the high E here, and I like to dig in when I play those high notes, wide vibrato and never had a problem, I dunno.
I have a Schecter Blackjack Atx that I adore.
I went through a bunch of guitar looking for a playable, ebony fretboard, 24 fret, fixed bridge guitar that was light enough to wear for hours.
I tried a PRS, an Ibanez I forget the name of source a higher end John Petrucci Ernie Ball before I settled on the Schecter.
I think trying to find one guitar that will jump from metal to jazz is a bit of a fool's errand.
Here's why: I own a 2001 American Fat Strat Deluxe.
It's a good instrument in transparent teal.
It can be used for just about anything, except metal not edgy schecter blackjack sls vs hellraiser and jazz strats are basically verboten For schecter blackjack sls vs hellraiser jazz instrument, you bad blackjack car lift with want an archtop if you're trying to do the gigging thing, maybe a tele is an exception, but neither are really suitable for metal.
Like, at least here in Austin, if you showed up to the resident jazz jam, you're going to get some looks showing up with like a Schecter or something.
Now, all that being said, the import parker is a potential candidate.
Yeah, showing up with a Schecter would get some looks, heathens.
I'm guessing that even though there are good players, that's a bit snooty.
I mean, the last guy I know of coming out of there was Gary Clark Jr and he at least then didn't play a snoot special.

I mean, the archtop I play is affordable.
I think it was like 1200USD.
I think you can get an Ibanez for about 600.
But, my phone started ringing once I showed up at the local jam with an archtop.
Remember, horn players are snooty about weird stuff.
Best not give them a reason to say no.
I think a super strat plus an archtop is pretty much the best way to go to cover metal to jazz.
The superstrat will cover most ground, but the jazz, archtops are where it's at.

That's the problem, too many people concerned about what others think about them.
I swear, once I left junior high, I couldn't care less what others thought about me, my clothes, my hair, my instrument's brand name.
What makes it better is when someone walks in with something against the "norm" or trend, and they blow the roof off.
Now THAT'S rock and roll!
Anyone who makes fun of someone for rocking out with a tele, or jazzes the piss out of licks with a flying v should quit now.
Stick to tending bar.

There's lots of good guitarists with archtops.
And the people that care about the visuals tend to tend bar.
Live music is 80% visual.
The op does not mention any concerns about getting called for a gig, they just want a guitar that goes from jazz to metal.
I schecter blackjack sls vs hellraiser a decent Schecter does an admirable job of that.

Ok if you're not looking to gig, then get whatever you want.
I hear Flying Vs sit in your lap nicely.
Any guitar is suitable for any genre as long as you're not looking to work.
FWIW concerning it's applicability Al DiMeola was an early adopter and I'm sure you've seen plenty of metal heads using them all for largely the same reasons - extreme precision, intelligent features.
They also tend to hold their value well click look gorgeous but you really should play one since the biggest complaint by some is their preference for Floyd Rose but that depends on a few niche effects and not the ability to stay in tune.

I mean, I have a schecter 7 first and only 7 I've ever owned and it's good.
If that is your bag, then cool.
There are many many other Schecters including expensive schecter blackjack sls vs hellraiser that are ace.
In the end it's the guitarist more than the guitar, but snobbery doesn't really do it for me.
Looks like a shred machine, but is VERY versatile.
An "Archtop" isn't my ideal for an all-rounder btw.
It's pretty boxed in no pun intended A strat is actually a VERY versatile option.
With rolloff, and pup selection it's something to consider.
